RecordsTransatlantic Speed Sailing Record - 03 June 2008 On Tuesday 03 June, ICAP Leopard smashed the Transatlantic Speed Sailing record finishing the 2,925 nautical mile crossing from New York to the Lizard in 7 days, 19 hours and 21 minutes shaving 8 hours off the existing record, to claim her second world record in two years. ICAP Leopard sailed at an average speed of 15.5 knots, and a top speed of 37.4 knots, to complete the Atlantic crossing. She crossed the finish line at the Lizard at 19:22:05 GMT (20:22:05 local BST), having started the record attempt off Ambrose Light, New York, at 00:01 GMT on Tuesday 27th May. The record she has broken, for a monohull yacht with power-assisted winches, was previously held by 246 foot yacht Phocea who sailed the course in eight days, three hours and 29 minutes. www.sailspeedrecords.com/content/view/22/24/ Rolex Fastnet Race - 14 August 2007 At 08h 58m 53sec on Tuesday 14 August 2007, Mike Slade's new 100-foot super maxi crossed the finish line off the Plymouth breakwater under spinnaker, breaking the Rolex Fastnet Race monohull race record that has stood since 1999. With an elapsed time of 1 day, 20 hours, 18 minutes, the Bruce Farr-designed ICAP Leopard (GBR) chopped just under 9 hours off the record set by Ross Field on the 80-foot RF Yachting. |
